I’m all for free speech! I’m also the one who has to decide whether what you’ve just “freely” said is a threat to me and my family’s safety. You can “freely” call me something derogatory, but now I gotta watch my back after work when I’m walking to my car. Pepper spray, hand guns & self defense classes all mean that I don’t trust your freedom to speak “freely,” because now I don’t trust that you won’t harm me & my family.
